Happy New Year!
As 2012 makes its grand entrance, I have been reflecting on how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to serve as our local chapter’s Diversity Director. What a great time to come on board – many exciting things are under way, and I am thrilled about the opportunity to work with you all in this capacity.
Thoughts on Diversity
When considering its importance to organizational success, diversity within an organization is like icing on a cake. Just as a cake without frosting is “okay,” organizations lacking diversity of thought, personality, experience, age, ethnicity, gender, culture, etc. are missing an important element that makes them better than just “okay.” Acting on a keen awareness of the importance of diversity creates an environment of inclusion, creativity, teamwork, respect, and rich relationships that are the foundation for great results.
This year, my goal is to continue to learn about and explore diversity with you and to share information, concepts, tools, resources and practical applications related to its many facets. I hope to provide useable, useful, relevant and applicable information that can be brought to life within our chapter and in your organizations.
It Takes a Village…
…or more accurately, a Diversity committee to accomplish that goal! A committee of interested and diverse members will craft a myriad of ideas that I could never come up with on my own. A committee focused on Diversity could be a think-tank for ideas, an avenue for members, and a life-size example of the power of diversity. We will collaborate with our Programs Director, Jennifer Gagliardi, to bring a dynamic speaker in for our September member meeting on a diversity topic. We will come up with new ways to get information in members’ hands and maybe even bring a diversity topic to one of our 2012 PDG trainings.
I need your involvement, ideas and energy! Please consider volunteering to serve on the Diversity Committee and email me or give me a call. I promise we will have some fun in the process!
All Ideas are Welcome!
Please be in touch – call me or send me an e-mail and give me your thoughts and ideas and your diversity-related needs. What specific diversity topics interest you? What would help your organization? How would you like to receive information? All ideas are welcome! Also, I’d love to get to know everyone, so feel free to be in touch simply to say “hi!”
