Nelson Mandela spent more than two decades in prison for being an activist. He fought against white and black domination. He wanted a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities.

Hiroshima Day (Canada, USA) In 1945 the United States dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. People of diverse backgrounds gather this day to declare their commitment to never letting another nuclear bomb be used against humans.

Women’s Equality Day
The Women’s Rights Movement began back in 1848 when five women held a convention in upstate New York to discuss the social, civil, and religious conditions and rights of woman. It wasn’t until 1920 the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the U.S. was finally ratified. Women were granted the right to vote nationwide.
